February 25, 2021, Washington, DC- National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) hailed the House of Representative’s passage of the Equality Act, which would codify LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections. NCJW Chief Policy Officer Jody Rabhan released the following policy statement:
“National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) applauds the House of Representatives for passing the Equality Act. We believe in the Jewish value of kavod habriyot, individual dignity, and to that end work toward LGBTQ equality and inclusion.
“While the Supreme Court ruled last year that employers could not discriminate against their employees on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, this important bill would expand these protections to all civil rights law, like housing and education, while also adding nondiscrimination protections for women.
“People of every and no gender deserve to participate freely and fully in their lives and communities without fear of discrimination. We thank the representatives who voted in favor of the Equality Act, and call on the Senate to pass this important bill without delay.”
