NCJW & Gilda’s Club Go to Camp

National Council of Jewish Women, Louisville Section will provide food, snacks, and toys for the children attending Gilda’s Club Kentuckiana’s annual Camp Gilda.

Kids aged 5 – 12 will spend the week of July 19th, 2021 together at Camp Gilda doing activities that focus on fun and friends to help give them an escape from the struggles of living with cancer. While this annual event will be a virtual camp again this year due to COVID, the 35 campers will have fun with this year’s theme, “Jungle Jam”! NCJW will provide 175 goodie bags filled with food, snacks, and toys for the campers to enjoy while they spend the week virtually together, as well as dessert for the campers’ family BBQ dinner.

NCJW, Louisville Section, inspired by its own mission to improve the quality of life for women, children, and families – and to provide tikkun olam (acts of kindness to repair the world) – has been and avid supporter of Gilda’s Club for the past 12 years. Helen Wahba, NCJW Camp Gilda Chairwoman, states “Gilda’s Club is a very rewarding and uplifting place for our members to support.”

“The NCJW ladies are intrinsic to Camp Gilda! From the beginning, they have not only filled the bellies of our young campers, but their hearts, as well,” said Gilda’s Club CEO Karen Morrison.

Gilda’s Club Kentuckiana (GCK), located at 2440 Grinstead Dr., provides a place where children and adults living with cancer (and their families and friends) join with others to build social and emotional support as a supplement to medical care. In its first decade, Gilda’s Club has served more than 8,500 people (one-quarter of whom are children) living with 55 different types of cancer. GCK members live in Jefferson, Oldham, Bullitt, Spencer, Shelby, Hardin, and Nelson counties in Kentucky, as well as Scott, Washington, Harrison, Clark and Floyd counties in Indiana.
