We Demand Equal Pay
April 16, 2021, Washington, DC-National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) celebrated passage of the Paycheck Fairness Act in the House of Representatives and urges the Senate to follow suit without delay. NCJW Chief Policy Officer Jody Rabhan released the following statement:
“As an organization devoted to improving the lives of women, children, and families, National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) advocates for employment laws, policies, and practices that provide equal pay and benefits for work of comparable worth and equal opportunities for advancement.
“Nearly 60 years after passage of the landmark Equal Pay Act, the gender wage gap persists. And, earnings lost to the wage gap are exacerbating the financial effects of COVID-19, falling particularly heavily on women of color and the families who depend on their income. This is why we welcome bipartisan passage in the House of the Paycheck Fairness Act, which gives us new tools to battle pervasive pay gaps and to challenge discrimination. Now it’s time for the Senate to pass this critical legislation.”
National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a grassroots organization of 180,000 volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms. Through a program of education, community service, and advocacy, our advocates across the country create lasting social change on our key issues of the federal courts; reproductive health, rights, and justice, and voter engagement.
